[ WHAT WE DO ]
Well design, rig selection and execution for geothermal wells, run on the same controlled delivery platform as every Metamorphic campaign.
Where Metamorphic finances a geothermal project, Metamorphic Energy structures it and this division delivers the wells.
A geothermal operator can hire the rigs and crews, or hire the owner’s-side management, without hiring both.
[ HOW GEOTHERMAL POWER WORKS ]
Closed loop: the two wells are joined by a cased lateral at depth and the fluid stays inside sealed pipe. Heat conducts through the wellbore wall.
01 · DRILL THE LOOP
The injection and production wells are connected downhole by a cased lateral through the hot zone. The whole circuit is sealed pipe. The drilled length in the hot rock is the heat exchanger, so drilling is the whole economic question.
02 · CIRCULATE
The working fluid is pumped down the injection well and through the lateral. It never touches the formation: no fractures, no formation fluid, no permeability needed.
03 · HEAT BY CONDUCTION
The hot rock heats the pipe and the pipe heats the fluid. The fluid comes back up the production well hot. Works in hot dry rock, and in repurposed oil and gas wells.
04 · GENERATE
At surface a heat exchanger passes the heat to a working fluid that spins the turbine (in a flash plant the brine itself flashes to steam). The turbine drives the generator; the power goes to the grid. The cooled fluid returns down the injection well and the loop runs continuously.
